Day 1: Flight to Antananarivo
Welcome to Madagascar, we hope you enjoyed your flight. Discover the City of a Thousand as you are taken to Relais des Plateaux for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Fort Dauphin – Mandrare River Camp
You will take a flight to Fort Dauphin, our local english speaking guide will meet you at the airport and will drive you to Mandrare River Camp on a 4 hours bush track. Your entire stay will be all inclusive there so don’t worry about anything. Once settled into your tent, enjoy the majestic views over the river. After a barbeque lunch made of succulent grilled meats and salads, go for a walk in the Sacred Ifotaka community forests. The forests are home of the Antandroy tribe’s ancestral tombs, and are filled with a bewildering array of flora and fauna, unique to the spiny forest. Back to the camp, after a shower and a freshen up, enjoy an evening aperitif on the river terrace, to be followed by a sumptuous 3-course dinner.
Day 3: Mandrare River Camp
After breakfast, you will set off South to the Sacred Gallery forests. Deciduous forests mainly composed of tamarind, they are full of wildlife, especially lemurs, including large groups of Ringtailed.
In the afternoon, heading up to enjoy the sun setting among the baobabs and to watch the moon rising on the mountains beyond… a purely magical experience. Local villagers may come to perform some shows of traditional music and dancing.
Day 4: Mandrare River Camp
Enjoy a succulent breakfast made of freshly baked croissants and “pains au chocolat”, fresh fruits, cereals and breads. At one of the nearby markets, you will witness the full colors of the valley life as people who have travelled for hours or even days, buy and sell their local wares. With our expert guides to interpret everything you see, you will have a rich fulfilling experience.
Back to Camp for lunch before setting off northwards to the Forest of Zenavo, owned by an elderly gentleman, where it is excellent to have night walks. First, we will go for a day into night walk to spot the Sifaka and the sleeping White-foot Sportive lemurs, then once the sun has set we will be able to see two mouse lemur species, sleeping birds, chameleons, owls and sportive lemurs.
Day 5: Mandrare River Camp – Manafiafy
You will hit the road to Fort Dauphin on a FWD and head towards Manafiafy. It’s a beautiful place where the forest meets the turquoise sea, with huge yellow sand beaches. Behind the Camp, on one side is a huge, mirror-like mangrove swamp; on the other, wetlands seething with amazing carnivorous plants that look like candelabra art.
Day 5 to 6: Manafiafy
Several activities are possible there, such as whale watching from June to October, canoeing on the swampy mangroves, sport fishing, speedboat excursions… A full board accommodation will be offered for the 2 nights stay at Manafiafy Beach & Rainforest Lodge.
Day 7: Manafiafy – Fort Dauphin – Antananarivo
Having experienced great adventures in the southern part of the Island, you are going to taste other beautiful things in the north. Enjoy a last trip on bush track from Manafiafy to Fort Dauphin for 3 hours or less, then overlook the entire southern land on a 110 minutes flight to Antananarivo. Once arrived in the capital, you will have an overnight at Relais des Plateaux.
Day 8: Antananarivo – Anjajavy
Early morning, you will join the airport and fly to Anjajavy. The hotel is a supremium Relais and Chateaux **** property in the west coast, northern of Mahajanga, laid along the Mozambique Channel in a rich and exceptional environment, and which can be reached only by plane.
Day 8 to 10: Anjajavy
Discovering the reserve with its lemurs and flora, and visiting local villages which perfectly reflect the Malagasy people’s diversity will be much enriching for you. Indeed, enjoy the ultimate luxury and the isolation, in a totally unspoilt nature at the finest hotel of the Red Island. A full board accommodation will be offered for the 3 nights stay.
Apart from the sea and the nature, the place has also many free activities to offer. Water sports: Catamaran sail (accompanied), sea or mangrove Kayaking, Windsurfing or just Snorkeling. You can also swim in the Pool or play Beach volley, Petanque or Badminton. Or go for walks and visit the local villages (a 10€ per person donation to EDM NGO would be much appreciated), have some excursions and strolls in the forest (with or without guide), visit caves, watch birds or enjoy a night walk.
Day 11: Anjajavy – Antananarivo
Enjoy a last aerial view of the big Island on your way back to Antananarivo before taking your international flight. We hope you would have fully enjoyed your stay in Madagascar and leave with plenty of good memories.
