Joffreville

So thrilled about what happened yesterday, Montagne d’Ambre is such a great experience! What next? Today, after breakfast, we are on for a 5 hour drive towards Ankarana, located 185km from Joffre Ville.

We promised you mountains, that’s why we want you to discover the Red Tsingy in the Southern East mountains of Diégo-Suarez, on your way to Ankarana. Located right at the bedrocks of eroded canyons, within the single sedimentary basin of Madagascar and heterogeneous vegetation, the Tsingy are made of sandstone, marl and limestone. This place is breathtaking landscape. It looks like time abandoned giant coral in the middle of nowhere, which turns grey of sadness. And the set is just gorgeous!

Let’s continue the tour to Ankarana to reach your hotel for dinner. You will get there towards the middle of the afternoon. Rooms will be ready for you to settle and rest tonight.

DAY 5: ANKARANA NATIONAL PARK

Iharana Bushcamp, Tsingy hiking at the Ankarana national park

Commonly called the “caves” or the “Tsingy”, this reserve is a harmonious set of eroded limestone rocks and hides within its subterranean network. It is an important part of the cultural treasure of Ankarana.

Are you keen to explore the Ankarana National Park? Our discovery plan can vary from 3 to 5hrs depending on your physical conditions. Still, if you suffer dizziness, please stay safe by refraining yourself. Trust our tour guide. We will be back tonight for dinner, and you will have an overnight stay at your hotel.

More about the Tsingy? Located in the Northern part of the island, in the region of Ambilobe, and it presents caves, gorges and sinkholes (canyons) of volcanic landscapes. The Tsingy also contains an exceptional fauna diversity. We now have listed 60 species of reptiles and amphibians, 96 species of birds, 50 species of mollusks and great number of snails. We were also told that 14 species of bats live in the caves of Ankarana: oh man, that is half of the bats of Madagascar! (Batman isn’t included.)

DAY 6: ANKARANA – ANKIFY – NOSY BE

Ambanja Plantation

Enjoy your 150 km journey back to Ankify through huge plantations of coffee and cocoa trees. Look closely to the window. You will have a 4h30 drive to keep as many great memories as you can, and we can assure you that you’ll get plenty.

At the Ankify port, we will board a speedboat. To reach your hotel, we will cruise for a 45mn boat transfer to Nosy Komba Island. Once there, we will give you time to settle and rest. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.

DAY 7: LOKOBE RESERVE

Macaco lemur Lokobe reserve Nosy Be

Today, we are going to enjoy our one-day excursion towards the natural Lokobe reserve! We will have a transfer by boat to Hellville, center of Nosy Be. And actually: Hellville looks amazing, isn’t that great?!

Lokobe Integral Natural Reserve is located in the Southern-east part of Nosy Be. It is one of the rare localities where the original forest of Sambirano still exists.

For list’s lover, please note that these different species of fauna live there: 30 species of reptiles and batracians, 4 species of mammals, among which two common species of primates, the “macaco Lemur” and the “dorsalis Lepilemur”. You can also find 17 species of birds including the Malagasy Kingfishers (Ispidina madagascariensis) and the owl of Madagascar (Asio madagascariensis).

After a short car transfer, we will use a motor dugout for about 45 minutes. Then, take a 3hrs walk in the forest with lunch on the spot. We will return to Nosy Komba at your hotel after lunch, for you to enjoy a free afternoon before dinner. What about taking pictures of the view from the room of the hotel where you will stay overnight?

DAY 8: SAFARI TURTLE

Turtles

Nosy-Be is surrounded by splendiferous islands, “Sakatia”, one of them, is still well preserved. Led by a diving instructor and a specialized guide, you will travel by boat to reach “Nosy Sakatia” (about 15 min). The day includes two excursions to local reefs to observe turtles and other species.

On one side of the beach, green and hawksbill turtles come to feed on a specific type of seagrass called “turtle herbs.” Within reach, you will swim with ancient turtles only a few dozen meters from the beach! We will be using submersible factsheets to help identify all the different species like: lobster, fish safe, clown fish, fish hook on and so on. Isn’t that awesome?! And don’t clutter yourself by bringing all your stuff: snorkeling gear will be provided, including fins, masks, snorkels and buoys! Relax.

Between the two excursions, beachside snacks will be served with tea or coffee. Then we will return at your hotel at Nosy Komba before lunch. As we will be at your hotel for the afternoon, we truly want to advise you to take it easy.
Try low fat food to lighten your night during dinner. Have your overnight stay at your hotel. You will have your flight to Antananarivo tomorrow.

DAY 9: NOSY BE – ANTANANARIVO

Nosy Komba

According to the schedule of your flight you will so fly back to Antananarivo. Therefore, tongasoa! Do you remember what it means? We are so happy you made it! It isn’t time to leave us yet, we really want to be at the airport to welcome again and ease you transfer to the hotel where you will stay tonight.

DAY 10: ANTANANARIVO

Anosy lake

Keep it up! Smile, you are returning home. We will try to get not emotional during your transfer to the airport for the international return flight. During your night on board, we want you to close your eyes, and dream of Madagascar. Your second home now. Bring sunshine to those you will greet you at your arrival the following day. Can’t wait to meet you again! Do you want to learn another malagasy word? Try “Mandrapihaona!” which means see you soon!

Yeah! So will be your trip in Madagascar if you plan to come. We love to say that these are just words. But we like it even more when we see satisfaction on our client’s faces once they leave us. For those who already came: How was it? What was your own highlights of the Northern Madagascar experience? Was it the green rainforest of the Montagne d’Ambre? The wonderful grey color of the Tsingy? Was is the blue ocean of Nosy Sakatia? We’d like to know. Whenever you want, you can put your feedbacks inside of a bottle, then insert it inside of an email. We will be delighted to read it !
