Day 2. Antananarivo – Fort Dauphin – Mandrare River Camp

95 km / paved road + secondary road / 4-hour journey

Transfer to the airport and flight to Fort Dauphin. A local guide will welcome you upon your arrival and will take you to the Mandrare River Camp. You will reach your destination after 4 hours of secondary road. Your entire stay will be all-inclusive. Installed in your tent, you will enjoy the majestic view of the Mandrare River. On the menu for lunch: yummy grilled meat and salads. In the afternoon, exploration of the sacred forests of the village of Ifotaka on foot. These forests are home to the ancestral tombs of the Antandroy tribe and are bursting with a disconcerting collection of fauna and flora specific to the thorny forest. Return to the camp to cool off before the aperitif and the sumptuous dinner served on the terrace.

Day 3. Mandrare River Camp

After breakfast, you will head south to reach the sacred gallery forests. These are hardwood forests, mainly composed of tamarind trees. It is an abundant fauna that shelters large groups of ring-tailed and sifaka lemurs.

At the end of the afternoon, enjoy the spectacular show of a stunning sunset, with impressive baobabs and the moon rising from the mountains in the background.

Possibility to attend a performance of Antandroy traditional dances and music.

Day 4. Mandrare River Camp

Departure to the market after an exquisite breakfast. As you stroll in the market, you will get to meet these valley people who travel hours and sometimes even days to buy and sell their local products. Our expert guide will explain each of the scenes that happen in front of you.

Back to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon, departure for the forest of Zenavo, the property of an old man where you can enjoy particularly pleasant night walks. At sunset, you will see the Sifaka or dancing lemur and the white-legged Lepilemur. Then, after sunset, you will see several species of Microcebus, birds, chameleons and owls.

Day 5. Mandrare River Camp – Manafiafy Beach

150 Km / secondary road + paved road / 6 hours

From the camp through Fort Dauphin, you will reach Manafiafy by 4*4. It is a beautiful place where forest runs along a turquoise sea, with long sandy beaches. In the back, the camp is bordered, on one side by mangrove swamp, and on the other, by wetlands with incredible carnivorous plants resembling candlesticks.

Day 6. Manafiafy Beach

Several activities are possible on site, such as whale watching from July to October, canoeing between swampy mangroves, sport fishing, sightseeing tours, visiting markets, exploring forests…

Day 7. Manafiafy Beach – Fort Dauphin – Antananarivo

55 Km / secondary road + paved road / 3 hours

After these extraordinary adventures in the south-east of the island, get to Fort Dauphin. Flight to Antananarivo. Through your plane window, admire the view overlooking the southern region of the country.

Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel Relais des Plateaux  for a day-use.
