Geographically, these forests are located at an altitude of 900-1,250 metres, and trade winds blow permanently on its Eastern part. Wow, you will be impressed by the numbers of animals they shelter there, to ensure species preservation. For example, there are 108 species of birds are flying all around. Some of them, like the special one called“Terpsiphone mutata”, contributes to some plant’s survival. There are also :
– 14 species of lemurs,
– 51 species of Boa reptiles including the famous Boa “manditra”, and

Walking through so much beauty will leave you hungry, but no stress, let’s go back to the hotel to rest overnight after dinner.

We have selected the best parks and reserves for you to get your first taste of real nature in Madagascar:

• The “Special Reserve of Indri Indri”
Don’t forget your camera! We will stay there during 3 or 4 hours, strolling around to observe the biggest species of lemurs: the Indri Indri. Besides, we advise you to be ready to greet some other species as the brown lemur, the “Eulemur fulvus” or the grey one, “Hapalemur Griseus”. What about observing birds too?

• The Mantadia National Park
This wonderful park is located at 1h30 drive from Andasibe Village. It is the sacred land of the «Diademed Sifaka», one of the most beautiful lemurs of Madagascar.

•The VOIMMA Park
We love this park. For years now, it was run by the nearby villagers. This park is famous for its large amount of nocturnal lemurs and chameleons’ species: make sure you’ve got your jacket, ‘because tonight we’re going out.

• Islets of lemurs
The islets of lemurs is hidden somewhere in the Private reserve of Vakona Forest Lodge. To get there we will cross the river bed by canoe. In these islets, lemurs are living in relative freedom. We will encounter Madagascar’s 4 species of lemurs: Ruffed Lemur, Ring tailed lemur, Hapalemur.

Antsirabe

Take an early shower. Let’s travel Madagascar from Andasibe to Antsirabe after breakfast. Today we hit the road towards the Great South – 310 km – 7 hours’ drive, to delight on the typical highland sceneries with rice paddies, traditional red clay houses, fruit trees, giant rocks, and so on.

Let’s stretch your legs out! Let’s make a stop in the tiny city of Ambatolampy at the foot of the Ankaratra massif (3rd highest summit of the island). We are on our way to Antsirabe, the Thermal City!

DAY 5: ANTSIRABE TO RANOMAFANA

Ranomafana

“Hey! We want some history courses!”- You’ll get some in Antsirabe. A peaceful city, which is famous for its thermal spring. The city economically burst at the arrival of some Norwegian missionaries, who used the fresh altitude climate to develop pastures. On the other hand, the French settlers developed a thermal complex along the Ranomafana’s lake, where the buildings can still be seen.

We want you to bring souvenirs of your trip in Madagascar! What’s better than a visit of the local handicraft shops? Before getting there, make a list of all your family and friends, because you’ll find gorgeous semi-precious stones, embroideries, a traditional sweets factory, handmade bags to offer once you’ll be home. Then, we will continue to Ambositra, mainly the capital city of handicrafts! Discover master woodcarvers and furniture manufacturing. Called the “Zafimaniry”, it is actually an amazing work of art, with shutters and walls carved in geometric designs.

After lunch, we will drive to Ranomafana located 230 km away from Antsirabe. Another 6 or 7 hours’ drive, but oh man, we really think you’ll go crazy on this one! This pleasant resort we’re going to, offers an open air museum – sheltering various wildlife and endemic plants : it is the rainforest itself. It will feel like cold water on your foot after hours of walk: so refreshing! Get settled at the hotel: dinner and cosyrooms are ready for you to relax!

And we will make the most of our day in the National park of Ranomafana to enjoy a full-day visit. It is the ideal place to reconnect with your inner peace.

Located on a rain forested uphill that lies at an altitude of 800 to 1,200 meters, Ranomafana national park was created in 1990 after the discovery of the “golden bamboo lemur” in 1986 (its scientific name is Hapalemur Aureus). This particular and magnificent species of lemur is unique. Did we mention its strange eating habits?

We can also find 115 species of birds there, thirty of which are strictly forest species;90 species of butterflies; 98 species of amphibians;species of fish; and 62 species of reptiles, chameleons, lizards.

Here, the Zebu regulates men’s life. People refer to it as the “Zebus’ civilization”. Gambade a bit before our arrival at a comfy hotel, for a tranquil retirement overnight! Dinner will be served there. What about trying some Malagasy meal tonight?

DAY 8: RANOHIRA – ISALO NATIONAL PARK

Isalo Massif trekking south of Madagascar

WOW: THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY! Why? Because we are loitering in the second biggest national park of Madagascar. The massif of Isalo, the oldest geological formation of Madagascar, is made up of sandstone massif of the 1stJurassic era.

The animals of Isalo have adapted themselves to the climate, the vegetation and the park’s geomorphology. Most of them are endemic species. Among them, we can quote the Benson’s blackbird or “Pseudocosyphus bensoni”, a very-well protected endemic species of Madagascar. Did you know that there are 77 species of birds living in the Isalo National Park? Yes there and, it still amazes us to see that they live in harmony withother 14 species of diurnal and nocturnal lemurs. Within these 14 species: 8 have been introduced in Madagascar, and 7 are endemic to the country. But not only, because you can add reptiles, amphibians, rodents, carnivorous and insectivorous animals to complete your list.

Our tour continues at the bedrock of the impressive massif of Isalo, for us to walk around to discover the park. Our experience as a receptive tour operator, demonstrate through years, that when clients arrive there, they want freedom to choose which activities they want to do. That’s why there are different possible visits on the spot: the natural swimming pool, the Canyons, the Nymph waterfalls or the Namaza forest.

And you know what? You won’t be deceived. Depending on the hotelwhere you will have dinner and stay overnight, and according to your needs, it is possible to: organize bicycle, horse rides, or SPA time at the hotel.

Appreciate the first glimpses of “Baobab trees” rising majestically in the middle of the savannah and the magnificent Antandroy and Mahafaly tombs. This afternoon you’re free to hang out around your hotel in front of the sea.

The Lemur fulvus rufus commonly named “Gidro” species is from the region of Morondava, on the Western coast of Madagascar. And you are completely right to ask: “Eurpho… what?” – “What does a Sonygika look like?” No worries if you want to have fun remembering plants and lemur’s names, because once in the park, you will see them.
